Ants

Have the willies yet??? Ants, regardless of what species, are highly invasive creatures that can be difficult to eliminate. They live in colonies and work together to provide for the colony to ensure that its members survive. Ants will travel as far as they possibly can to obtain nourishment. If ants sense food in your home, they will look for ways to slip inside and search for food to take back to the colony. This doesn’t mean your home is dirty by any means. Ants may not be dangerous per say, but they can contaminate your food, and just by walking, they can spread disease.

Ants can obviously squeeze through tiny cracks in your walls and around your window sills and doors. After finding food, ants emit pheromones, which mark the location of the food and help additional ants find their way to the source. And did you know they also release these same pheromones when they are attacked, so if you happen to swat a few stray ants, you may be unintentionally allowing other ants to find your location!

Most times, this is an ongoing problem and in order for them to be eliminated from your home, you need an professional exterminator to identify, locate, and eliminate your problem! Call us!

Bedbugs

Bedbugs are small non-flying insects. These are tiny little guys and sometime difficult to detect – except for the itchy, sometimes raised bumps caused by their bites on your skin. Adult bedbugs only 5 mm-7 mm in length, and when seen, they are sometimes mistaken for ticks or small cockroaches. They feed by sucking blood from humans or animals. Adult bedbugs are reddish brown in color, more reddish after feeding on a blood meal! While they cannot fly, they can crawl rapidly. Temperatures between 70 F-80F are most favorable for them allowing them to develop into adults most rapidly and produce up to three generations per year.

Why are they called bedbugs then if they feed on blood? Bedbugs can live anywhere in the home, but they often live in cracks in furniture or in any type of textile, including upholstered furniture. They are most common in beds, including the mattress, box springs, and bed frames – hence the name. But they aren’t just there sleeping.

Getting rid of bedbugs is not an easy process and most cases of bedbug infestation will require treatment by a pest-control expert. Because bedbugs can survive for up to a year without feeding, they are quite persistent. CALL US SO THE BEDBUGS DON’T BITE!

Cockroaches

They are MANY types of cockroaches. Cockroaches will eat almost anything from book bindings, paper, food and even human flesh. It is believed that the cockroach may be a carrier for a range of bacteria, including salmonella, staphylococcus and streptococcus.

These suckers have been around since the time of dinosaurs! They can live almost a month with food and about two weeks with water – a cockroach can live for up to one week without its head! Cockroaches can pick up disease-causing bacteria on their legs and later deposit them on foods and cause food infections or poisoning. House dust containing cockroach feces and body parts can trigger allergic reactions and asthma in certain individuals. The list of negatives reports on cockroaches just goes on and on.

Because of their ability to survive, regular maintenance is usually necessary and can put a hurt’in on your budget. Let the experts at Premier help you identify the type of cockroach you are having problems with and discuss the best plan of treatment and continued prevention with you at the most affordable rate possible.

Termites

There are also several different types of termites. Typical signs of termite infestations include swarming of winged adults in the spring and occasionally autumn. Other signs of termite presence include “pencil-size” mud tubes constructed over the surface of foundation walls, mud protruding from cracks between boards and beams, and hollow sounds from infested wood when it is tapped, or extreme softness when probed with a knife. Since termites live in dark places and many of them are blind, termites communicate through pheromones – keeping them a’coming like some of the pests above.

If a termite infestation has been found, it’s time to call the experts in.There is no one-size-fits-all termite control method. The techniques and materials used to control an infestation vary based on the type of termite, home construction and extent of infestation. Call Premier to inspect your property for free.
